THE ANTE

Seven Card Stud requires an ante, which is a small sum required to be put into the pot by each player before any cards are dealt. The smaller the predetermined wager stakes are, the smaller the ante will be. Typically, a table with a $10/$20 wager stake, will have an ante of $1. A $10/$20 wager stake on a poker game is one in which the maximum low bet is $10 for low limit betting rounds and the maximum high bet is $20 for high limit betting rounds.
